While Scorsese\u2019s films like Goodfellas and Mean Streets focus on the mob world, Casino gives us a bird’s eye view of the corrupting forces behind Vegas and how those with lust, hubris, and greed run the show. With a cast led by Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, the movie is rich in character and story.<\/p>\n
But it is also one of the most violent movies ever made, including a torture scene involving a vice and a popped eyeball (that had to be trimmed for an NC-17 rating) as well as a death by overdose in the case of Sharon Stone’s Ginger. Despite the violence, though, it is not meant as shock value or style; it’s simply a realistic depiction of the human tragedy that can occur through these kinds of greedy and destructive relationships.<\/p>\n
